How to use the scoring wheel with Cricut Design Space

  1. Add score lines to your design: After creating or uploading a design in Design Space, add score lines using the "Shapes" tool in the left-hand menu.
  2. Convert lines to "Score": Select the lines that you want to score, then go to the "Operation" menu at the top of the screen and change the line type from "Basic Cut" to "Score".
  3. Attach score lines to your shape: This is a crucial step to ensure your score lines are placed correctly. Select both the shape and the score lines, then click the "Attach" icon (paperclip) at the bottom of the layers panel.
  4. Send to machine: Click the Make It button and follow the on-screen prompts. Design Space will recommend either the Single or Double Scoring Wheel based on the material you select.
  5. Insert the wheel: Open Clamp B on your Cricut Maker and insert the Scoring Wheel tool. The machine will first perform the score, then pause and prompt you to change to the cutting blade.

Tips for different materials

  • For thick or coated materials, such as glitter cardstock, kraft board, and poster board, use the Double Scoring Wheel (02).
    • Place "pretty side" down: With the Double Scoring Wheel, always place the material "pretty side" down on the mat. This is because you must fold into the score line to prevent the top surface from cracking.
  • For thinner materials, including crepe paper, acetate, and standard cardstock (80 lb.), use the Single Scoring Wheel (01).
